Prof. Dr. Ralf Wagner, CEO and CSO
Prof. Dr. Ralf Wagner, the initiator and founder of GENEART coordinates as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the companies business ventures and strategic direction. As Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) he is responsible for all technical and process related developments as well as research activities. Ralf Wagner was one of the first scientists who realized the enormous scientific and commercial potential of gene synthesis and combinatorial biology for the most diverse use within modern life science and is therefore considered as one of the pioneers of Synthetic Biology. Within the scope of this new discipline Ralf Wagner stands for the successful conversion of a scientific and technical vision into a sound business model. He is an inventor and co-inventor of several patents and author of multiple scientific publications. He supports the Federal Ministry of Health, the European Commission, several international foundations as well as the German Research Association as a consultant. In addition to his work at GENEART, Ralf Wagner also manages the Molecular Microbiology and Genetherapy unit at the University of Regensburg.
Dr. Marcus Graf, COO
As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of GENEART, Dr. Marcus Graf is responsible for production. This incorporates the ISO 9001:2008 certified processes of design, the syntheses and the quality control of genes, gene libraries and expression vectors in any required quality and quantity. As cofounder of GENEART, he has also contributed to the significant rise of the capacity in gene synthesis which has almost doubled on an annual basis since the foundation of GENEART. In the recent past, in his capacity as head of operations and effective with the IPO, as a member of the management team, Marcus Graf coordinated the completion of the Mammalian Gene Collection, which the American National Institutes of Health (NIH) has delegated to GENEART. During his doctoral dissertation he worked on the development of a DNA vaccine for HIV at the Molecular Microbiology and Gene Therapy Unit at the University of Regensburg.
Bernd Merkl, CBO
As GENEART’s Chief Business Officer (CBO), Bernd Merkl is responsible for the Sales, Marketing and Business Development departments. Since 2005 and until his nomination to the Board of Management, he managed the Business Development and Investor Relations functions. Prior to joining GENEART Bernd Merkl was employed with Henkel KGaA in Düsseldorf and a biotech-company listed on the stock exchange. He studied biology, chemistry and business administration at the University of Regensburg, the University of Erlangen-Nuremburg, and the University College of Dublin. Bernd Merkl combines his profound expert knowledge in the areas of strategic planning, business development and controlling with a vast experience in the commercializing of bio-technical products.
Daniel Seibert, CFO
Since joining the company in 2009 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Daniel Seibert leads the areas of Finance, Controlling, Investor Relations, Purchasing and Human Resources. Daniel Seibert gained a deep experience in high growth enterprises in fast moving industries. He was CFO in a private equity backed renewable energy company, which he restructured prior to a trade sale. He aquired his experience of financial leadership and management as Managing Director of Scout24 Holding GmbH, as Head of Investment Analysis & Controlling at T-Online International before it was merged into Deutsche Telekom, and in international functions at American Express. Daniel Seibert graduated with an MBA (Diplom-Kaufmann) from the University of Frankfurt in 1995.
