GENEART AG
GENEART, based in Regensburg/Bavaria, has become the global market leader ever since entering the gene synthesis market in 2000. In addition GENEART is one of the foremost global specialists in the area of Synthetic Biology today. The company provides the key technologies for pharmaceutical & biotechnology companies, chemical industry and academia for the development and production of new biotherapeutics, vaccines and improved industrial enzymes. Customers also take advantage of GENEART services to construct bacteria, which produce or break down complex biopolymers such as synthetics or petroleum components.
GENEART’s service portfolio is comprised of 4 fields of business, which range from the production of synthetic genes and the generation of gene variants/gene libraries in combinatorial biology (gene evolution) right through to the production of plasmid DNA. The entire service chain is DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 certified. As a fourth business field, GENEART offers the generation of stable mammalian cell lines and transiently transfected cells used for protein production.
Gene Synthesis Services: GENEART provides in silico gene optimizations based on its proprietary GeneOptimizer® software. The respective gene sequences are produced using GENEART’s nano-scale high throughput GeneAssembler® technology platform.
Gene Evolution Services: Based on an optimized master gene the GENEART Gene Evolution Business Unit generates individual target-oriented gene variants and specific or randomized gene libraries via directed evolution. Such gene libraries may contain up to 100 billion (1011) variants of a master gene. This large number of variants is for example useful to identify improved drug candidates or industrial enzymes.
Plasmid Services: GENEART offers to insert (=clone) the produced synthetic genes and gene libraries into plasmid vectors (transport vehicles). These plasmids are used to integrate the synthesized genes into the customer-preferred cell factory (bacteria, yeast, mammalian cells, etc.) for the purpose of propagating the plasmid or to produce the desired protein. GENEART also designs and constructs plasmid vectors according to customer specifications. Plasmids are delivered in any desired quantity from research grade all the way up to cGMP if required.
Cell Lines and Proteins: GENEART produces stable mammalian cell lines and transiently transfected cells, preferrably using optimized genes subcloned into suitable expression vectors, that produce the protein of choice. This enables customers to outsource the complete work from gene to protein and defines GENEART as a competent partner for academic and industry during all steps of the development of DNA and protein based biopharmaceutical products.
